The Faithful Small-Hall
Every skull in this room has had a small hole drilled neatly in the crown, and every hole is the same size. It is a chamber of some size, and it takes 4 paces to cross one way and 3 paces the other. A little painted boat sits on a ledge, its sail made from a scrap of handkerchief. A tall candle-stand of wrought iron stands empty in the middle of the floor. A chalk number above a niche has been corrected more than once, in different hands. The smell of oil thickens, as if something very large were near.
