The walls lean in toward the top, the niches following them, so that the dead look down at you. It runs 9 paces and turns once, so the far end is out of sight until you reach the bend. Every footstep here sets off a faint high ringing that dies away behind you. Someone has scratched a tally into the wall — 66 marks, the last one shallow, unfinished.
