The Still Sluice
A candle stub has been stuck to a dry ledge high on the wall, burned down to a coin of wax. Moss grows thick on the lower walls, soft as a pelt, and holds the marks of passing hands. It is a small chamber, and it takes 4 paces to cross one way and 2 paces the other. Sacks hang from hooks in the ceiling, each a little bulging shape stiff with salt.
