The Chalk Passage

Both walls are written on from the knee up — routes, times, initials, a shopping list, sums that do not resolve. The chalk is layered so deep in places that it has gone to a soft grey crust. Nobody has rubbed anything out; they have simply written over it, which tells you something about how they felt about each other.
